{"id":12273,"date":"2025-07-31T12:17:38","date_gmt":"2025-07-31T12:17:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.euromedica-assistance.com\/cmsms_department\/gynecological-examination-including-possible-office-echo\/"},"modified":"2025-08-10T08:35:01","modified_gmt":"2025-08-10T08:35:01","slug":"gynecological-examination-including-possible-office-echo","status":"publish","type":"cmsms_department","link":"https:\/\/www.euromedica-assistance.com\/en\/cmsms_department\/gynecological-examination-including-possible-office-echo\/","title":{"rendered":"Gynecological examination (including possible office echo)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The study of the pathologies and physiology of the female reproductive system are the object of study of a specific branch of Medicine: <strong>Gynecology and Obstetrics<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>The <strong>gynecologist<\/strong> is the Specialist Physician to whom one should turn for <strong>gynecological checkups<\/strong> or during the period of <strong>pregnancy.<\/strong> An important difference with Doctors specializing in other branches of Medicine lies in the fact that <strong>consultation with a gynecologist can be made and recommended at all times<\/strong>, not only in the presence of overt pathology or disease.<br\/>Given the potential breadth of pathologies that can affect a woman&#8217;s reproductive system, the gynecologist has a tendency to collaborate with different specialists.  <\/p>\n\n<p>A <strong>gynecological examination<\/strong> is recommended to: <strong>assess the health status of the woman&#8217;s genital apparatus<\/strong>, <strong>choose the<\/strong> most suitable <strong>contraceptive method<\/strong><em> (birth control pill, hormonal and non-hormonal IUD, vaginal ring, patch, subcutaneous implant)<\/em>,<strong> investigate suspected infertility in the woman<\/strong> and <strong>subsequent difficulty in conception<\/strong>, detect any <strong>pelvic floor problems<\/strong> <em>(urinary incontinence, genital prolapse, chronic pelvic pain),<\/em> choose the <strong>transition mode<\/strong> during the woman&#8217;s <strong>perimenopausal phase<\/strong> (period before menopause), follow the woman <strong>during and after pregnancy<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>During the <strong>gynecologic examination<\/strong>, the gynecologist to thoroughly view the health status of the female reproductive system uses the<strong>ultrasound<\/strong> machine, as well as <strong>laboratory tests <\/strong><em>(blood test, vaginal swab, cervical swab, pap smear, HPV test with different typings)<\/em>, second-level <strong>screening instrumental examinations <\/strong>such as colposcopy (performed in case of doubtful or suspicious pap smear results) or <strong>interventional diagnostic examinations <\/strong>(such as<em> endometrial biopsy<\/em>).  <\/p>\n\n<p>In inpatient and outpatient settings, the gynecologist can perform minimally invasive procedures of various types <em>(insertion and removal of IUDs, removal of cervical polyps, etc.)<\/em>. <br\/><br\/>The <strong>gynecological examination<\/strong> can also be useful for a field that combines gynecology with andrology and psychology (for that field, in fact, the choice of the Specialist to whom to turn is up to the patient): <strong>sexology<\/strong>.
