The injection of botulinum toxin (botox) is an aesthetic medicine treatment aimed at smoothing expression lines, that is, those wrinkles caused by the mostly involuntary movements of the facial muscles (“crow’s feet” wrinkles, glabellar wrinkles–the furrows between the eyebrows, frontal wrinkles).
Botulinum toxin, purified, is injected in minute amounts and directly into the muscles responsible for wrinkle formation, allowing temporary relaxation of the muscles and giving the patient a relaxed and soothed appearance that lasts over time. In fact, the effects of botulinum injection last from 3 to 6 months.
The treatment should not be performed in pregnant or lactating women.
After administration, the patient may complain of: a headache, swelling at the site of infiltration and rarely drooping of the upper eyelid for 3 to 4 weeks post-treatment.
