The term psychology is derived from ancient Greek and its literal meaning is “the science of the soul.” Over the years, the term has undergone a conceptual evolution, whereby psychology means the totality of the conditions of feeling and thinking and the consequences that these two aspects have on the behavior and physical conditions of individuals. Thus, the ultimate goal of psychology is to improve the patient’s quality of life by taking care of the patient as a whole.
Choosing a psychologist is never easy or obvious, different approaches are used by professionals, mainly stemming from their professional and educational backgrounds but certainly, the goal is common: to enhance individual or collective resources in order to foster change and help individuals or groups of people (whether couples, groups of patients with common problems) in overcoming difficult times to regain stability. This is why the path of psychological interviews undertaken with a psychologist is considered a rehabilitative path.
